Site Closing

The West Vancouver Now site will be winding down as I have not been able to dedicate the amount of time needed to make this a quality information site. Hopefully in the near future I can re-launch with a more dedicated effort. Thank You.

Algae Bloom in Vancouver Lake

The local health department is warning people to stay out of Vancouver Lake, due to an algae bloom.  It is not closed, but children and animals are especially susceptible to the algae which can cause serious illness.

They have two offers currently going.

2.  Buy any 16oz drink and get $1.50 off any lunch menu.  (lunch is served until 3:30PM daily)

Rainy Creek in Downtown Closing

Rainy Creek in downtown Vancouver is closing their doors for good at the end of August.  (525 W 8th St
).  If you are looking for some home decor, a great present for someone, stop on by for great deals.

It is sad to see another store closing here in the downtown area, especially around Esther Short Park.

However, it does seem when one store closes, something else opens up nearby.  Best of luck to the folks at Rainy Creek.

ARCO Station on Main Street

Has anyone noticed how slow the gas pumps are at the ARCO station on Main and 39th?  Random thought for the day, but it makes me want to go to the station across the street instead.

Go ahead and post other annoying or frustrating things here in West Vancouver.

Treat Cupcakes in Downtown Vancouver

Have a hankering for cupcakes?  Try “Treat” in downtown Vancouver that specializes in just that, as well as cookies.   They are located next to Woody’s Tacos on Columbia St (between Evergreen and 11th).  They do special orders for parties, gifts, and more.  Make sure you go early in the day because they have become quite popular after being open for only about a month.

We tried the white cupake with pink buttercream frosting and sprinkles and the peanut butter and jelly cupcake (jelly in the middle).  This was my daughters favorite.

West Vancouver Real Estate Data

Based on Zillow.com’s latest data regarding the change in medium home values within West Vancouver’s neighborhoods, I have found the following information.  In the next few days I will be speaking with a local realtor who specializes in West Vancouver homes to get some local insight on where the market might be headed as I am sure most home owners are curious.

Award Winning Vancouver Wine

Congratulations to West Vancouver’s very own Gouger Cellars on their most recent award winning wine from the San Francisco International Wine Awards.  You can visit them at their downtown location at 1812 Washington St.  Their summer wine tasting hours are as follows.

  • Friday: 2:00pm – 8:00pm
  • Saturday: 10:00am – 6:00pm
  • Sunday: 12:00 – 5:00pm

From Gouger Cellars Website.  “Two weeks ago we were awarded an International Silver medal for blend 903 (Syrah, Malbec, Cab Sauv, Cab Franc) at the San Francisco International Wine Awards. There were almost 4,000 entries from 27 countries! We want to be sure as many as possible can savor this blend so there is a limit of one bottle per person. The other half of the competition is for package design which includes labels, bottles, etc… The Mine, Mine, Mine was awarded an International Double Gold!!! Double gold is the highest award given and we are the first winery in the Northwest to take it home in 30 years! The Mine Mine Mine was the collaboration of my amazing, beautiful wife, Chef Bonnie, who came up with the idea for the name, graphic designer Don Elliott of Elliott Design, Inc who designed the label, and I handled the packaging.
